if they really intend to released this at cebit it means they are either going to be showing a beta really soon or they are going to simply "announce"..aka paper launch...v8 to drum up buzz for v8.
1) ASG V8 has a much newer kernel, adding support for thousands of new hardware pieces, and will not require beefier hardware, in fact using less RAM, being approximately an ISO of at least 15-20% smaller, and running more efficiently. We also do plan some new features, so pound for pound it will be smaller but enabling some of the shiny new things we plan will of course add load in various areas. More to come on that, most customers with 1GB RAM hardware boxes and 1.5ghz processors and up will have a good v8 experience. We are still finalizing the details on all that.
2) you will indeed be able to fully restore a v7 configuration, as the limit from v6-v7 in some of the configuration not being portable over won't be a problem this time, as we are not making that massive modification to the backend architecture like we did those years ago.
3) appliance users will be able to push the up2date-to-v8 button at some point after the GA, software users sshould expect a re-install/restore of configuration, but again its too early to say for sure if that is set it stone...

This is great. Perhaps there will be support for the RTL8110 Gigabit chips so the mini-itx motherboards with 3xGbit daughter card will work.
I may have to build a new Firewall machine for this. Solid State Drive of course.

A dumb question tho, v8 will accept licenses from v7? I have a v7 at work I'd like to update to v8 once some of the kinks are worked out of the release.
TheDrew, my understanding is you will need to use a license that uses the new licensing model on Version 8; you can convert "classic" licenses to the new licensing model in the Astaro Portal, or if you have a commercial license, your reseller can do that for you with relative ease.
