Pass-through network card

Anyone have one working?  I want a card that has two nics and fails open.  That way if Astaro crashes, powers off, or has hardware issues, I can get out.

  • Hi,
FYI, we have an IPS (Proventia from IBM nee ISS) which claims full pass-thru, but in fact it goes offline during reboots, etc., so I don't have much faith in the idea.
Besides, you'd have to have a router or reconfigure your network.

How about a second box setup in case the primary one dies?

  • The custom hardware appliances we use have that capability built into the hardware (as does some if not all of the ASG appliances), but I believe you have to have a watchdog daemon installed that is used to detect when the system locks up; that woudl involve modifying the ASG software which would violate your support agreement, if you are running a commercial install.

    I like Barry's Idea better.
