hardware is now being detected.....forever

i've bought an asrock g31m-gs r2.0 today with intel g31 chipset, ich7 and realtek 8111 gbit lan. i've inserted 2x512mb kingmax ram and an e1200 dc celeron. the problem is i can't install astaro, the installation hangs at "hardware is now being detected". i tried everything, disabled the onboard lan, removed the second nic, disabled usb, floppy, audio, tried classic installation, ran memtest but nothing. i don't know what the problem could be..

    Hi, try pressing ALT-F3 or ALT-F4 to see the installation messages or errors.

    the system freezes so i had to be really fast hitting alt-f3. it seems the installations hangs at "searching for disks", the hdd makes a clicking noise and that's it. tried different hdds, ide and sata, changed the ide mode in bios to compatible but no result. i've even installed windows xp to see if maybe the motherboard is defective but the installation went fine and the xp works perfectly

    FruFru, after updating to the latest bios did you do a manufacturer default on the bios and then re-configure?  also for your hard drive controller, is it set to Standard/Compatible or AHCI/Enhanced ?

    I have seen an issue before where boards will use a jmicron controller to control the IDE Channels, are you using a IDE, Sata, or USB CD-Rom or a thumb drive?

    the board came with the latest bios but i tried to load the factory defaults with no result. there's no jmicron chip on this board just an ich7. i thought it might be the controller tried all the combinations /ide hdd + ide dvdrom, ide-sata, sata-sata, sata-ide/ and played with the bios ide settings too but nothing. the only way to avoid the freeze is to remove the hdd, if i do so the installation stops normally with a message and the system reboots.

    finally i gave up and bought a gigabyte ga-g41m-es2l mb and it's working like a charm even with the 50 percent overclocked little e1200 /1.6ghz@2.4ghz/. if someone ask i don't recommend the asrock g31m-gs for astaro or any other usage.

    I have the same problem.. whit the same Motherboard.!! but this MB use Intel Chipset, so many other motherboards may use the same chipset... now i triet to download the new ISO version 7.502 to see what happens!
