Grey screen after 7.3 install

I have brought this up b4 but got hardly a word of advice so ill try again
I have a new HP DC 7800 Small form factor

I get it to install when i choose classic install mode but after reboot it flashes up some tect for less than a second & then simply sits on a grey screen until i reboot.

This simply repeats problem.

Version im trying to install is 7.3. Would it help if i changed to a later or earlier version.

Im getting to my wits end with this as my other PC keeps freezing after a day or so with a continuous need to reboot ASG to get it working again.

Please any advise would be most helpful

    Just out of interest i thought i'd try & install a Linux app i have not used for years since moving across to ASG.

    D'led & burnt iso of Smoothwall to CD & i hate to say it but it installed flawlessly on same PC im having so much trouble with when doing the same for ASG version 7.3

    You guys both have hardware incompatibilities.  V7.3 is now almost two years old, so, yes, you might have more luck with 7.5 which is only two months old.  In any case, you can watch the details of the boot process by pressing Alt-F2 - that will allow you to see which device is causing the failure.

    Us 2 guys are the same person. So just to confirm as each version of ASG is brought out more computers are also becoming compatiable in running it? 

    Also fyi F2 soesnt work in this instance. My screen goes blank imediately after grub loader executes. I see probably 4 lines of text within 1/2 second & than blank (nothing). I have tried pause,scroll lock but i cant get anything to catch it so dont know where it is failing.

    Any ideas?????

    Keep in mind that Astaro runs a limited driver set in it's kernel.  I think your workstation hardware is too new for it to work with astaro.  Astaro is geared towards Server hardware not workstation/desktops.

    It sounds like it's the video adapter.  See if you can go into the BIOS and set it to an OLD format.

    ALT-F2, ALT-F3, etc., not just F2 without ALT.

    Yes, 7.5 will have support for newer hardware than 7.3
