HA Cluster (Active-Passive) firmware update

That's confusing.  Did this ever function correctly?  Are you sure that both are configured to use Eth2 for High-Availability?  Is the connection between Eth2 interfaces done with a cross-over cable or through a switch?

PS Astaro uses the term "Hot-Standby" for your situation and reserves the term "Cluster" for Active-Active setups.

Ok, sorry then I have the two astaros configured in hot standby mode. :-)

Sorry bad explanation.
I have the eth3 configured for HA.
ETH2 is just a Trunkport I'm using. The port does not come up on the Slave. All other ports are up on the slave.

For the HA I used the cable that is shipped with the astaro. I thought the astaro supports auto mdi-x.
I can see the slave in the masters dashboard. But it still says up2date in the display of the slave and if i unconnect the ha cable the slave does not take over and becomes master.

I will now do a factory reset on the slave and do the update manually.

Have you tried to reboot the box with the older firmware?

You can do a factory reset and then attach it as a new slave. Then it should start the firmware update again.

I did a factory reset on the slave and updated the firmware manually.
I now connected the two astaros on eth3 and set the configurationmode to automatic. it works now but both say that they are unlinked. I read that this problem occurs when both astaros are not connected to the same networks. guess my zyxel switch is not in the mood to do trunking. :-)

So my last question is: If there is a new firmware update do i have to install this to the master and then both get the update?

You don't have to do trunking on a HA or cluster setup. Only if you really have trunked links from each node. But this never worked as it should anyway on my tests.

Updates are automatically installed on both nodes. First it updates the first node, reboots it (if needed), and then it updates the second node and reboots it too (if needed).
