depends on the goodies you intend to turn on.  Also v8 is coming (no timetable but won't be long) and i bet it's going to be beefier than 7.x is.  I think the atom will suffice for 5 users under the current codebase (again i don't know what features you want to use).  Give us that info then we can give you better advice.

hmm... this gives me pause before pulling the trigger on the 5015A-H. I'd hate to purchase something only to have it made obsolete by the next version release. Surely, Astaro must be cognizant of the need for reasonable backwards compatibility, if only to service their existing hardware base?

From what I've read I'm am guessing it will carry the load but would someone comment:

Can anyone comment on this configuration? Will Astaro run the Marvell NICs? I can't find any commentary on these in the forums or on the HCL.

This should give me the horse power needed with plenty of room for new release and/or growth requirements.

Hi, the 945gc and ICH7 chipsets should work fine, however it is unlikely that the Marvel NICs are supported.

Also, be aware that most 1U servers are very loud.

If you don't mind the noise, you can pick up a used HP DL rackmount server on eBay for $300-600, and possibly even get an HP support contract with it.

Noise is not an issue. Everything terminates in the basement. I'll poke around on ebay. That may be the way to go. I like the small supermicro system posted previously but I'd to build something that meets demand and is somewhat future proof. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm still working through specs. Can anyone comment on this Supermicro board:

Paired with a C2D E7400 or E7500

Are the E7400/7500 supported? What about the ICH9R chipset? I don't see that in the HCL either. 

I'm guessing that I've answered my own questions but I found it used for a decent price and would like to move on it.

Any modern Intel or AMD x86 CPU will work (and some VIAs). 

I'm not sure about the ICH9R chipset though.
