Prebuild hardwarebox for essentials edition

Hi folks,
a customer of mine, asked for a cheap firewall. I offered an asg 120 without any services but it was to expensiv for him (Company size: 25 computer, 3 Server). So I decided to look for a prebuild hardware box (because I dont like screwdrivers [;)] )

I've checked the official HCL and most of the devices on the list are too large. I found three entries about Nexcom but all of them have to less ram (max 512MB).

Are there any boxes which are compatible (and not on the HCL) which have enough power for the essentials edition?

    That Lanner system looks interesting, but I'm not sure how practical installation would be with only a serial console. might work.

    I'm new to Astaro products been listening to Leo talk about them (well read the ads) for a while and decided to check it out.  I'm trying to figure out if the SuperMicro Server 1U 5015A-H would be okay for a home connection with 50Mbit down/10Mbit up with about 5 users.

    depends on the goodies you intend to turn on.  Also v8 is coming(no timetable but won't be long) and i bet it's going to be beefier than 7.x is.  I think the atom will suffice for 5 users under the current codebase(again i don't know what features you want to use).  Give us that info then we can give you better advice.

    Okay well I'm not sure what I'm going to want to run.  Like I said I'm new to Astaro so I am going to play around with it so if you can tell me something that will be good with anything and good for 8 when that comes that would be great.

    Hi, the IPS might struggle on an Atom with a 50mbit connection, same for anti-virus in the http proxy.

    Then again, you're probably not going to find many websites able to send at 50mbps, so unless you're doing a LOT of p2p or other fast transfers, you probably would never notice.

    I use the full bandwidth almost daily plus it has a boost so allows bursts up to ~60Mbit.  I have struggled to find routers with WAN to LAN throughput above 50Mbit and my current does but lacks in other areas.  Since the throughput is pretty important for me maybe i would be better off with something more powerful.  Can you make a suggestion what would be a step up from atom but still smaller form factor.  I have built many computers so if going that route thats just fine too.

    yes but 5 folks can chew that up as many sites will easily do 10 megabits at a base level..[[[:)]]]  

    frankly something more powerful is needed with your usage.  Dual core at least of at least 1.8ghz or faster.  I would also recommend no less than 2 gigs of ram.  I'm not sure my home machine(the celey listed below) would handle 50 megabits with everything I have turned on..[[[:)]]]  The xeon however would handle that easily hehehe..it's a beastie of a box though..[[[:)]]]
