Memory usage increase!

Hi,
I must have missed something, why is low memory usage important. High memory usage should lead to better performance with more elements in high speed access.
But if you are concerned have a look at "top" on a console session to see which application is using all the memory.

Memory usage is reasonably transient, I find mine increases slowly over period of days then will suddenly drop. I suspect it has to do with update packages.

Well, I suppose that if free memory reach 0% then swap memory on disk will be used. 
And also: I have heard that when too much memory is used some serivces (such as web proxy) will suddenly auto-restart. For these reasons I would keep low memory usage...

memory usage is a function of the ASG configuration. The quickest way to reduce memory usage is to stop IPS.

I would suggest you review your packet filters to see if some can be combined or deleted.

Has this been resolved because i have the same issue running ASG 7.502 on an Intel 3.0Ghz HT socket 775 with 3GB of ram...Ram usage goes up constantly  and within 3 days it will be at 75% which is unacceptable (especially since i have IPS disabled and only have one filter rule).....Top doesn't even match what the web interface says...and there seems to be no clue why this happens at all. I can install ASG on a socket 478 Intel pc with 3GB of ram and this issue does not exist on this machine. I wanted Astaro to take advantage of the virtual cores...i hope this gets fixed ..I have had to move to another distribution in  the meantime.

Your memory usage "problem" is only mental in your brains, I think. 

As long as you don't get heavy swapping during the day this is no real problem. ASG uses lots of memory e.g. for database maintenance in the night, at which times swap usage can occur. If this swapped out data isn't needed during regular operation it's not a problem when it remains in swap.

I'm running a ASG virtual machine with only 1 GB of virtual RAM and never run into a memory problem with it (barring memory leaks in beta versions). Of course there is always 10-30% swap usage but this doesn't affect performance.

This is a REAL problem but probably hardware and not Astaro ,Im not sure what you are talking about "this being mental in my brains"  but The dashboard will indicate that 70% of my 3GB of Ram is being used after 3 days of up time, day 4 it goes up to 80% and grows and grows..Is this really in my mind?    The memory usage grows so much that it eventually crashes my ASG box. Top does not even show the exact memory usage that the web interface is showing. If i have to reboot my ASG box every 4 days then this is a REAL problem, and a bug. I have already disabled hyperthreading as requested by another forum member...but unfortunately this does not resolve this issue. I can run ASG on a Vm on ESX  with no issues at all just like i can run it on a socket 478 Cpu based Intel...But i want it to run on a socket 775 HT Intel Cpu and due to this issue i cannot do so unless i want to reboot every few days which defeats the purpose of a gateway solution..It could somehow be a hardware issue since i have never came across this issue with any other box that i have put together for running ASG
