New Atom board and processor coming

Interesting news for those wanting to build small, efficient and capable Astaro boxes.

1st quarter 2010 there will be one (or more?) new Atom CPU's and chipsets (integrated on new motherboard(s)) shipping.  Apparently the new products are designed to deliver good system performance improvement - not only through native speed boosts, but also better bus and chip designs and better power management.

    Pine Trail really appears to be quite a disapointment. Some reducement in power consumption compared to existing cheap mainboards with the 945GC chipset, but no advantage to GSE-Boards like BarryG or me are using. Virtually no performance improvement but a lot of artificial constraints: No frontside bus (so no more 3rd party chipsets like ion), no dvi. 

    While they might be well suited for a low power firewall, they are certainly worse for desktop use. A clear step backwards, only for Intel not to hurt their sales of more expensive cpus and to hurt 3rd party manufacturers instead.

    I'm glad I have my board from the old series.
