New Atom board and processor coming

Interesting news for those wanting to build small, efficient and capable Astaro boxes.

1st quarter 2010 there will be one (or more?) new Atom CPU's and chipsets (integrated on new motherboard(s)) shipping.  Apparently the new products are designed to deliver good system performance improvement - not only through native speed boosts, but also better bus and chip designs and better power management.

    The target of the "pine trail" platform is power consumption by moving memory and graphics controller into the cpu package - no speed improvements there. Given the history of atom availability in the past, I wouldnt hold my breath for desktop boards with that chip. They should show up in netbooks very soon, but not in a replacement for a boards like the D945GSEJT.

    It's certainly possible I misunderstood, but I think I'll stick /w my original comments which I discussed first hand with some people in a position to know.  Hopefully I heard right and they stated it correctly.

    It is correct that when any of the motherboard companies state that availability will be "quarter x", it often means the company ships only one board, and the others don't follow until later.  Nonetheless, I think a lot of people are hoping for some power and performance improvements before going ahead with their projects.  So the sooner the better.  We'll see.

    I was getting ready to order some hardware for a low power astaro box,prolly with the D945GSE chipset. I am not sure there will be much 
    to gain for astaro with pinetrail. I do use a lot of the astaro features but not many users(home user), are there any other lower power options
    that astaro will install on? I have looked at ion, via , and atom boards and the atom 945gse seem to be the lowest power draw around in this
    class. I have seen the threads on the MSI 945gse boards, am I O.K. with this board?
     
    As long as I use a case that will accept a pci card I could add an ethernet card for a total of three?
     
    Maybe the price will drop for the older series when pintrail becomes available.....[H]
