Successful install but won't boot up

After successfully running through the install, it asks to boot into the new system.  Upon attempting to boot into the system from the hard disk, it gets as far as printing, "[Linux-initrd @ 0x1fdc1000, 0x1fecbc bytes]" to the screen and it just hangs there with no useful feedback.  It's like the kernel image isn't even attempting to load.  I waited for 15 minutes just to make sure it wasn't just being slow.  When I power on the box, it posts just fine, the grub bootloader comes up just fine and the default entry attempts to load.  Here's my platform:

CPU: VIA C3 Nehemiah 1.3GHz (supported by Astaro according to HW list)
Mem: 1GB (tested with 512MB with same result)
Hard disk: 40GB Seagate Barracuda 7200
NICs: 5 10/100/1000 Intel Pro 1000 (all recognized by the installer just fine)

Would be nice to know what is causing it to hang.  Anyone else have this issue and able to get around it?  I've already attempted to mod the kernel options by passing things like noapic, nolapic, etc. from within grub to no avail.  Enabling grub's debug option provides nothing useful before it hangs.  Other Linux distros run just fine on this hardware.  FreeBSD does as well.  Seems that Astaro and Untangle both have the same issue on this platform, for whatever reason.  Anyway, thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi, try changing the LBA settings in the BIOS. You might have to re-install afterwards.

    The only LBA settings within the bios are simply, "Enabled" and, "Disabled."  So I'm guessing that you are suggesting I disable it since it was enabled for the original install.  I am running through the install again with LBA disabled just for curiosity.  We'll see what it does here in about 1/2 hour.  But even if it does work, it's pretty pathetic to have to disable LBA!  Don't ya think?  Anyway, thanks for the suggestion in either case.  I'll post the results later.

    Well it's a no-go!  Same problem with LBA disabled.  Frustrating!!!  I guess it's time to look for other solutions.  I'm just not sure it's worth the frustration to try and make it work with my hardware at this point.  Thanks anyway though.

    Hi, which Astaro ISO are you using? 7.500 is available from the ftp servers in the Beta folders.

    I'll give 7.5 a try.  However, the beta directory seems to only have up to versions 7.4xx in it.  I found, "asg-7.5-090930-1.iso" in the standard iso directory.  Its file size is exactly the same as the file named, "latest_asg_v7_software.iso" in that same directory, which is the one linked to from the Website for public download.  The md5 for that one is not listed so I'd have to download it and check it's hash value to see if it's indeed the same file as asg-7.5-090930-1.iso.  Anyway, downloading asg-7.5-090930-1.iso now, just to see if it works any differently than the version I already tried...

    Ok so I verified that my first attempt was with version 7.4xx and this last attempt is version 7.500 or the latest available.  Same result!!!  It simply won't boot!  Well, at least I gave Astaro a fair try!  Thanks again for the suggestions.

    Found Vyatta.  It recognized all the hardware and it even boots up!  This solution looks promising although it lacks some of the UTM capabilities of Astaro.  Anyone else care to chime in on Astaro vs. Vyatta?  I get the feeling it's sorta apples and oranges but I'd like to hear some feedback from users that know both platforms relatively well.  Thanks.
