Install Astaro on router

Hi all,

I don't know if I am talking rubbish here but is it possible to install Astaro on a router?  I have a spare NetGear DG834G that I could put at the point of entry to my house, (this would have to go behind my Sky netgear router as they are a pain and demand that I have to use that to get the net).

I don't know much about Astaro apart from what I have heard on Security Now podcasts.

I used to have an old compaq proliant 5500 server that acted as my main server and firewall.  I am building a new server that will not be able to physically sit at that point so would not be able to do the firewall control.  The server will (hopefully) be using VMWare ESXi 4.0 and have an Ubuntu server and 2 windows servers running as VM's.

If anyone would be able to give some advice or point me towards some good howto's or the like that would rock.

    Hi,
    No, Astaro needs a Pentium-III or better PC system.

    Astaro can run on VMWare, but it isn't necessarily the wisest choice from a security perspective to have the firewall on the same machine as your servers. Some people do it though, and it's probably OK for home use.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the info.  Reading around some more that was the conclusion I was coming to.

    I am in the process of trying to remove hardware so don't think this will be an option.  The VM route would be a real pain and take valuable resources from my other VM's.

    If your main concerns are space and power consumption, you can run Astaro on a 17-watt Atom system such as the one in my signature, for a little over $300.

    Hi all,
    I have a configuration with two ASG220 with 512RAM in cluster active/active (master-slave).
    Astaro send me a new ASG220 (with release 7404 and 1Gb RAM) as a replacement for one of my ASG (slave).
    The new Astaro has the 7404 release, while the other cluster (master) has installed the 7306 release.
    Now I must to install 7306 in place of 7404, but I don't know how to do.
    I downloaded the image ISO of the 7306, but how do i do to install it in ASG?
    Then, when I installed this release, how do I do to synchronize it with our master?
    Is it sufficient to connect it with the master and it update by itself?
