RAM upgrade impossible?

Hello,

are more than two GB of RAM unusable?

We have two 2 GB RAM modules inserted and the BIOS recognizes 4 GB but ASG shows only 2 GB.

That's probably 2GB _per process_.

type 'free' to check available RAM.

It is a dual cpu system.

What exactly do you mean with per process?

more importantly is it a user built ASG or an Astaro hardware/software package?

Some motherboards will only recognise part of a 4gb system eg my HP laptop recognises 2811mb out of the 4gb installed, not impressed.

Strange; dmesg shows 3.2gb but then only 2gb are available.

Can anyone else post the output of 'free' on a 4gb Astaro system?

Software ASG package with own hardware. HA system with dual AMD Opteron cpu.

We located the problem at the bios. SoftwareMemory hole was activated. After disabling, ASG recognizes 4 GB how it should.

But another question: Is ASG a PAE Kernel using, so we could use above 4 GB RAM ???

Astaro hasn't yet had a PAE kernel, unless the new beta has one (I'm running it but unsure how to test for PAE).
uname -a does NOT show pae.
