Thanks for the link.  However, the solution Bruce provided only works when the issue is with your usb cdrom drive not mounting quickly enough.  His solution still assumes you are burning the iso to a cdrom.  It doesn't solve the problem of long file names getting truncated when using a tool such as unetbootin to create a bootable thumbdrive.  However, his solution did make me realize I could slim down my instructions a bit. [:)]
