Intel G31 chipset... will it work?

I am looking at a new PC for my Astaro build.  This mtherboard uses the Intel G31 chipset.  Has anyone been able to install using this chipset?

I did a search on the forums and got 0 hits.  I did a google search and found this unresolved post:

Anyone running dual core with a motherboard that you can still buy?  I would like to have four PCI slots, but three would do.

Hi guys, seems like it doesn't work at all!

I bought a G31 MB cause I wanted a small but powerfull FW, but the setup always gets stuck during the hardware detection. No more keyboard input possible and even the "Num-Lock" key-LED goes off.

Sucks!!! Payed about 500€ for the system [:(]

€dit: Tried to disable all more advanced settings in the BIOS, tested an other OS installation (without ANY problems) and so on... I have no idea, why it doesn't work.

I used the version 7.402. Should be the latest version :/

Astaro and many other linux distos don't support the recent Intel chipsets [:@]

ICH10 systems are especially bad. Did you try the setting mentioned in the other thread?

I got a ICH10 system to work by disabling the onboard SATA controller and installing a cheap Promise SATA controller.
However mine wasn't hanging like yours.

Anyone got any suggestions on new Intel CPU motherboards that do work with Astaro/ESX etc?

What other thread did you mean?

Btw. wrote a support ticket and got the answer that they haven't tested it yet and I should consider the HCL... Not the answer I hoped to get [:(]

Trying to return my mainboard now, maybe I'll get an AMD system (which I usually use ALWAYS)...

But I'll try the tip with the additional SATA controller! Thx [:)]

Tried the newest beta's, too, didn't help...

Funny: When was the HCL updated the last time??? I can't find any of "newer" chipsets in it!!! [:S]

Yeah, ICH7 should work, I think... Have you got a PATA drive you can try? Assuming the board has a PATA connection.
ICH10 on SATA definately does not work.

Most of my Astaro boxes are on AMD hardware which just seems to work...
