Please help with choosing hardware

I want to use asg free home edition. I need a pc though.
I'm not sure what to buy and which hardware will work. My budget isn't finalized but my goal is $300 or less. That is my goal, not final. 

Right now I was hoping to use a shuttle pc/case but I don't know where locally to get I e fully built. I will be fine with the lowest power/specs since there's only 1 pc and one MacBook pro wireless laptop, a wii, xbox 360 and ps3. I have 8 port 10/100 switch already and dlink dgl-4300 wireless router and comcast cable business account 16/2. 

I can go to frys Fry's Home Electronics | Computer Parts & Accessories, Software, Games, TVs, Cameras - Frys.com but don't know what to do. They have a local store for me. I don't know where else locally to look. I have cash enough and looking to buy asap. 

The specs I was thinking of is dual nic of course. 2gb ram. 30gb/smallest cheapest hdd. Cheapest CPU.

    Hi,
    The setup in my signature below cost about $300 for the motherboard, CPU, case, and power supply. It has 2 Intel gigE NICS, is fanless and very low power, and should be powerful enough for home use. The board and case only seem to be available via mail order however; I used Logic Supply. You'd need to add 1-2GB laptop DDR2 RAM (under $30) and a laptop hard drive.

    A used computer is also a good option; older hardware usually tends to have good Linux driver support.

    If you're going to buy something at Fry's, you're going to need to do some research... start with the HCL and then try to find a motherboard with a chipset and NICs on that list.
    I'd recommend a good brand such as Asus or MSI or GigaByte. Be wary of things advertised on sale at Fry's; they're often refurbished or discontinued products.

    Take a look at other user's signatures for other hardware ideas.

    Like Barry said, you can consider used also.  Just an example of used equipment.  There are likely more on Amazon and eBay.  For about $100 with shipping, you get a refurbed P4 2.8GHz 20GB 256MB.  Add $50 for a GB of RAM and $100 for a dual-port Ethernet adapter, and you've got more power than you'll ever need.
