Soft-Release v7.402

Update:
We just uploaded a fixed Up2Date package for v7.402 to our FTP-Server (ftp.astaro.de, Mirrors may take a while to sync). This new version should not break your VLANs (and probably other devices) anymore.

Make sure you download the correct new version:

Just checked ftp.astaro.de, in folder /pub/Astaro_Security_Gateway/v7/up2date. The old 7.402 is still there.

Today, after upgrading to 7.402, and reboot, Astaro no longer recognized 7 of my 11 Interfaces.
I was forced to clean install 7.401 and upload the configuration file in order to bring back my system on its feet.

Eth 1 ,Eth 3-6, Eth 8, Eth9.

I had the same problem on one of our test appliances; the Intel GB NICS which have worked fine since 7.0 quit working after instalation of 7.402.

sounds like this testbox is still on version 7.402. If so, please try to find some answers:
- Are there only Intel NICs on this box?
- Please issue an 'ifconfig -a' to check if the NICs are possibly not initialized correctly
- Could you post a 'lspci -vknn'? (if there is no external access to the box, the name and PCI id should be ok for starting. You can get them with 'lspci -nn | grep Ether')
- Can you please post content of /etc/modules?
- Can you please post result of 'lsmod | grep e1000'
- Please issue a 'dmesg' and check for relevant e1000 or e1000e messages

1. See replay no' 67
2. I have also one Quad Nic.
3. All of them Intel chipset according to Astaro list.
4. All worked fine until 7.402.

No problem on my system with NICs after 7.402.

Card is Intel Pro/1000 Quad Port PCI-X

Astaro shows it as:

the 82546GB & 82571EB chips are both very popular. They may differ in sub-revisions of course (and that may also cause trouble), but in general both should work. Upto 7.401 there was one driver responsible for them, which is e1000. Starting with 7.402 responsibility has been split into e1000 and e1000e. In our case, 82546GB would be handled by e1000 while 82571EB is bound to e1000e. This should not cause trouble, but at a first glance I'll of course suspect one of the modules to cause the trouble. Such cases may differ from 'no nics present at all (per module)' to 'some nics missing'. In the first case it is usually up to the driver itself, in the second case the problem may be caused by the hardware (e.g. NVRAM problems) - this should be displayed in the logs or when issuing 'dmesg'.

I'd recommend/suggest to use the upcoming 7.402 ISO to boot up your system with. And check if installer is able to detect all NICs without erros (check Console 3 and 4 after/while hardware detection). There is no immediate need to install the software for doing that and it should take just some minutes. In case some if the NICs are already missing at hardware detection step, please issue a 'dmesg' at Console 2 and check for errors related to one of the modules stated above.

I have already open a support ticket in Astaro.

Since i have around 550 users, which depends on my services, I'll have to wait till Thursday morning, and try to re install the update.
It's been a long time since i have done clean install, and about two months ago I have added a new NIC, and I'm suspecting it could be the reason.
After the big crush, i was forced to do clean install of 7.401, so maybe things will go better this time.
In case of crushing  again, I'll try to have Astaro to look at it.

Marcel is saying NOT to try the up2date again, but instead to wait for the 7.402 ISO and try a clean install (on a new hard disk if you want to make it simpler).

Thanks.  I understood that.

I'll try first to see if the upgrading might work this time.
Also, If I understood right it's also possible to see with the new Iso if it  recognize the NICs before it really starting the installation.
For now, since I have 7.401 Iso and the config file,  installation takes about 5 minutes.

Today, after clean installation of ISO 7.402, it seems that the new system recognized all the NICs.  Never the less, it changes the orders of the NICs.
Right now, after I reconfigure it again, it seems to work fine.

One Small problem - I'm getting some “Your internet uplink ADSL-x is down" From all of my four ADSL lines which is part of my Uplink group.
(The main lease line seams to work fine)
