Dualcore XEON (HT) w/ or w/o SMP?

no you can leaft SMP/HT enabled, HT delivers not that much of a performance improofment, but it also doesn't hurt.

Our biggest appliance has two Quad-Xeon processors, and it works without a problem.

I just ran the install cd for v7.400 iso and it identified all CPUs, 2 real, 2 HT.

I will be disabling HT in an attempt to find a minor bug. I am a home user so there shouldn't be any noticeable affect for 10 devices.

We're here in a 30 User env.
About 10 over Proxy, the rest went directly thru Packetfilter.
Some Logging.

Must i expect some issues belonging to intels ht ? Better disable in BIOS?

Stability is the highest priority!

I am using a very late model hardware setup, even though it is supported occasionally I run into a situation where 1 process uses up about 33% of the CPU resources, stops data logging and won't pass traffic. From the thread I stated the suggestions have been a number of things, one being disable HT and see if that improves the situation.

With your proposed load, HT won't make much difference but memory will, so go for at least 2gb of ram.

AFAIK HT is bad for forking processes because with every context switch the CPU registers must be backed up and restored. Sometimes it might be useful for multithreaded processes.

So for UNIX like systems i would disable HT.

But you will not "feel" any difference!
