v7.400 build on new hardware - stop issue

Hi,
I am building a new ASG based on the Intel D945GCLF2 motherboard and chipset. A quick hardware summary,
1/. Intel Atom 330 dual core with hyperthreading
2/. 2gb of ddr2 ram
3/. Intel desktop pro NIC in the PCI slot
4/. 120gb sata 2.5" HD
5/. onboard NIC is a realtek 8111

The box installs without a problem and restarts without a problem after install.

I have installed the ASG software a number of times using earlier v7.4b and production v7.4. I didn't notice this happening during testing with the beta version. (using beta version now and same problem)
When the 'shutdown -H now' command is issued from the console the system starts the shutdown process ubtil it gets to the ipsec part.

..
Skipped service in runlevel 1: ipsec-starter

the process then stops. Ctrl-C returns a console prompt. Re-issue the shutdown command and the shutting down message appears but nothing happens. If I now issue 'shutdown -Hr now' the shutdown process starts and runs through to restart. If I issue the same command after a completed restart the system cycles correctly.

    Hi,
    During the configuration I get locked out of both webadmin and the console. In an attempt to locate the problem I have a putty and webadmin session running.
    The current lockouts are happening while trying to configure MASQ.

    Top shows
    kacpid 100% cpu 0% mem
    config.plx 3% cpu 1.1% mem
    websec-reported 2% cpu 0.3% mem
    selfmonng.plx 1% cpu 0.4% mem

    forgot to add that if I do a restore from my current production ASG I don't have these problems. I can make changes without locking up the system.

    Hi,
    I have completed the basic install and network configuration with only the mandatory logouts during configuration.

    I am currently waiting for the new ASG to download the 5 updates before continuing the configuration for user access.

    After this, if it is stable I will do a config save, rebuiild from scratch using the v7.400 ISO. Perhaps I should download another copy and use a fresh version?

    You could verify your image by comparing checksums [;)]

    looks like the last 2 entries I made on this thread are a result of a faulty NIC. I removed the NIC and the configuration  proceeds smoothly. The only spare low profile card I have is in my current ASG. So tonight the I will have to borrow it.

    Wrong, a NIC from the working ASG and installation using v7.400 and I run into the same problem. I suspect that I need to wait between changes to see if the kacpid reduces its cpu requirements.

    Hi,
    found the problem was in the bios, an upgrade fixed it. There is a minor bug in the supplied bios that has a loop under certain circumstances.

    Having now got most of the easy part of the configuration done without a reboot or lockup, the box should go online tomorrow after the specific configuration details are added.
