What's the best, free VM for a Windows laptop to demo Astaro?

This is aimed at those of you who have an Astaro VM available on your laptop. I don't plan to keep it running all of the time, but I would like to be able to demo some features.

I said "free" - that means I'm not ready to spend much more than $100 for the capability.

I also don't want to have to learn how to make the VM work; just to plug it in, configure memory and ethernet setttings and install Astaro.

Yes, I'm a little cheap, but I'm really lazy!

I think Vista Pro comes with MS Virtual PC, but you wouldn't be able to use the VMWare image with that.

Personally I dislike version 2. I only use version 1.

you can also just use vmware player with our pre-configured virtual appliances.
VMware Player: Run Multiple Operating Systems with Free Download for a Virtual PC - VMware

use with:
ftp://ftp.astaro.de/pub/ASG/v7/virtual_appliance/asg-7.400-vmware.zip

just "open" the virtual machine with vmware player and turn it on, and then do customization if you need. simple and works great. (and free [:)])

Angelo, would you concur with the suggestion to use V1.0.9 or have you heard better reports on 2.0.5 or 2.5?

Thats a great question. When using VMWare server, i tend to still use the "old" v1.x one, as i just dont find the HTTP tomcat style interface all that great yet, too used to the old habits i think. The new one tends to work just great, if your not already used to the other way...

Although it's not officially supported VMware Server 2 can be used with the VMware Infrastructure Client (included in the Server setup). Much better than the already mentioned web interface.
