RAM upgrades are available for ASG 110/120/220/320 units only with recent hardware. 
 
To determine if your unit is able to be upgraded review the first 6 digits of your unit serial number against the following list:
 
 ASG 110/120 rev1  A00003, A00004 
 ASG 110/120 rev2                                 A07029
 ASG 220 rev2   A01024, A01025
 ASG 320   9******, A02009, A0200A, A02021, A02022                                        
 





For older ASG 110/120/220 revision systems an upgrade to the latest hardware is available for purchase through your Astaro partner or by contacting Astaro sales.

Is the hardware upgrade mandatory if any existing system is using less than 70% of its RAM ?

Do clients with Platinum protection need to pay for this hardware upgrade ?

the RAM upgrade is not mandatory to run 7.400.

But we add a lot new features in this release and system that have a high RAM utilization should get the RAM upgrade to make sure you can use all the new free features.

even if your RAM utilization is below 70% we still recommend it, just to make sure you can use all the cool stuff we plan to add during the next releases. 

Yes, also customers having "Platinum Maintenance" must pay for the memory upgrade. 
But you get all the cool new features like link balancing, https web security and server loadbalancing for free. Buying other products to have these features easily sets you back another 5K $. [:)]

couldn't you just buy PC3200 RAM and add it to the 220's?

the only problem is, ECC or not?

The older 220 and 110/120 units can't be upgraded by simply adding a RAM chip... the chipsets used on the old units don't support more than 512MB.  If you have one of the newer units, I still recommend you purchase the memory upgrade from Astaro (or your reseller, if you're in the US) ... the pricing is reasonable, and you get to keep your warranty and support by using Astaro-certified upgrades.

this is a booger. All five of my ASG120s are either 9x or A00001x.

If we DO upgrade to replacement hardware, will a V7 backup file import seamlessly with ZERO yuk yuks?  Just import, load, and bingo bango all done? Im not going to basically re-build my firewall as I had to from V6 to V7.

Do we return our current ASG hardware or get to keep them?

UDPride, It's a simple Restore.  Just load the relevant unencrypted backup on a USB stick, plug it in to the new ASG and turn it on.  Instant satisfaction.
