I need some assistance configuring the NICs with the VMWare ASG Appliance.
I have purchased an Eeebox to attempt to determine if it would be a viable platform to house the ASG VMware appliance. (This box has the Atom processor(N270) 1.66 MHz with 1GB Ram, etc. Besides being small, its biggest advantage is that it only consumes 20watts of power.) It comes with a 1GB ethernet port, but the box cannot house additional ethernet ports directly, so I purchased a USB 2 Ethernet adapter. Using XP both ports work as expected. I can assess the internet and the internal LAN with this configuration.
However, correctly configuring the VMWare & ASG appliance to connect to these ports has eluded me. (I downloaded the latest VMWare Player from VMWare.com and the latest asg appliance from the Astaro website.) Using XP's "Network Connections" utility to bridge the VMnet8 to either NIC continues to return errors. And the "Bridge" feature in the VMWare Player does not result in connections.
Soooo! How do I properly configure the connections between the virtual NICs and the physical NICs to connect properly?
ASG LAN IP => 192.168.150.5 mask => 255.255.255.0
Physical NIC IP = 192.168.150.1 mask => 255.255.255.0
Are these supposed to be bridged via the XP "network connection" utility?
Are there any known issues with USB 2 Ethernet adapters? Any known issues with RealTek NICS?
Sorry, for being an idiot, but try as I can the solution eludes me.
Thanks in advance for the assistance of the experts.
