New ASG appliance access via Modem

It looks like the new ASG appliances have a console port.  Using a terminal software we can connect with a PC, however when we try to connect via a modem with the same settings for the port speed and settings we get "gibberish" text on the screen and can't seem to get it to show us the console.

Is there a way to accomplish this?  We currently have dedicated dial-up lines to manage our Cisco routers in this manner when the network link is down at remote sites and it would be great if we could do the same w/ the ASG.

  • I don't believe it handles direct modem connections... perhaps you can SSH to it from one of your cisco devices (you know, hop in the cisco, then hop into the Astaro)...

Another option would be to add a RAS device of some sort.

  • Bruce, I think there is a connector on the ASG220 and up, but I've never used it.

Mierwins, it depends on the security level you need.  I don't think I would want to leave a modem connected to the console port even though (I think) it is possible to do what you want to do.
