Backup Config file

Hi,

If the ASG box (software) were to be compromised, at the root level, could or would a backed up config file carry the unwanted code into a new installation?

That would be disastrous if a person has a huge amount of IP ranges blocked in the packet filer.

Is it possible?

If I remember correctly, a new install of ASG enables the shell access automatically, and uses default passwords. I have no idea why.

    SSH access is not enabled by default- and more importantly, there are no default passwords in an Astaro system.

    As Barry mentioned, no executable code is included in the backups.

    That said, as unlikely as it is to have a compromised system, I recommend storing multiple backups off of the ASG.  In a "worst case scenario" situation, go back as far as needed for you to feel secure that the config is stable.
