Multiple CPUs useful?

Hi,

now that I have a new home server (see signature) on which I run the ASG virtuall appliance, there is much more computing power than before [:D]

Does the ASG benefit from more than one vCPU? I already doubled the VM's memory from 512 to 1024 MByte.

    Depends how much traffic you have, and what features you're using... IPS, A/V, Content Filter, ... are all fairly CPU intensive.

    If it's not slow with 1 vCPU, adding more wouldn't make much difference [:)]

    I think that the Astaro Linux handles traffic very efficiently - I've been running an ASG220 on a 50+ user network and so far so good! (although, slowly starting to look into an ASG 425a for throughput)


    I've tested ASG V7 on an Intel Xeon Quad-Core Sun server (ASG V7 run as VM on-top of ESXi 3.5, the VM had (1) 2.5Ghz core and 2GB RAM.) The performance was in-line with the ASG220 and giving the VM more RAM or compute power was unnecessary.

    I'm running on VMware Server 2.0 upon Windows Server 2008 x64. Having also a quad core 2,5 GHz Xeon and only 1 GByte RAM it's fast enough.

    But I only have five users not 50 [;)]
