ASG V7 on ESXi: Best choice?

Hi all,

I got 1 ESXi (v3) running and installed from the original Software Appliance-CD. I also saw there's a virtual appliance for ESX. My question is what is the choice? Use a standard installation or use the virtual appliance? I don't know if the virtual appliance is "tuned" for using in ESX?

    The virtual appliance image that Astaro provides will need to be converted using VMware Converter.

    I played around with both and recommend just doing a fresh install since VMware tools IS INDEED installed by the ISO image.  In this case you have a clean install.

    I do hope more companies start creating images using the new VMware format that spans ESX 3.5, ESXi 35, Server 2.0 and Workstation 6.5 without complicated and troublesome conversions.

    I'm running 4 Physical NICs on the ESXi host with a separate network assigned to each with one dedicated to the PPPoE connection where I have a block of public IPs assigned.

    I find the stability flawless and I have moved this VM across a few different hosts in testing without issue.

    Hi,

    we're using also ESX3.5i version on a box with 6 physical NICs.

    We played with special vmware image, without success.
    After that we installed right from ISO image with Version 7.304 and it works perfectly.
    After that, we let it upgrade to release 7.305.
    Loaded config file from replaced asg
    Finished within 15-30 minutes.
    Since 2 weeks it runs without any problem.


    Konfig:
    Vmware shows 4x virtual Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] 79c970 [PCnet32 LANCE] Nics
    2 Nics are working in PPOe mode (DSL)
    1 Nic in DMZ
    1 Nic as Internal.

    My understanding is this is the VLance NIC, not the VMXNET 2 or 3 NICs.  I installed the vmware appliance on ESXi 4.0 and am having throughput issues with my network.  d/l speeds (8MB down cable service) of ~50kb/s.

    Should I wipe it and try again with the ISO?
