State up, Link Down - but still working?

I finally went ahead and installed Astaro V7 on my desktop system and using it for my routing at home.

Everything appears to be working, but one thing is annoying - my eth1 is showing State is Up, but the Link is down - yet I am able to do everything online I need to do.

I use DSL at home, and its a dynamic IP assigned by the ISP, and I have just selected eth1 as 'Cable Modem' for DHCP.

  • Interesting... most DSL (at least here in the US) uses PPPOE to make the connection...

What kind of NIC is eth1?  it's probably just a driver issue with MII.

  • Eth1 is an older card, Netgear FA310TX PCI card.  It is decribed in Astro though as  [Lite-On Communications Inc LNE100TX].

  • It's probably the card.  You could replace it with some other make (I prefer Intel cards, they are probably the most fool-proof when it comes to working with Linux distros, at least in my experience)... if you decide to do that, note that the Astaro software will not add the new card on the fly.  You will need to backup your configuration and reload after you swap the card out.  I would stick to cards, chipsets, and platforms listed here: http://www.astaro.com/lists/HCL-ASG-V7.txt

  • Yes, I would like to replace it soon.  I've had it for a long time; I'm sure it will give out eventually (even if I have to spike it into the road outside).  [;)]

I haven't messed with any of the Intel cards, other than wireless.  I will check them out.

  • Hello,

I think that is a display error from webadmin. Please disable and enable the Interface. Than is all ok, because at the boot prozess the confd check all option, if one option at that moment not correct, then can the issue appear
