Installing ASG-Software on an appliance

Hi,

I had the chance to grab an used ASG120 and want to use it at home.
I know and tested it, that I cannot use my home license (I have power user license) on an appliance.

So I wanted to install the ASG-Software on that appliance, but installation failes in step 3 with the information:
"non-ASG installer on ASG Hardware"

Do i need to reformat the hdd or are there other signs that the installer recognizes an ASG-appliance?

What steps are recommended for that use?

    Which iso file did you used? ASG or SSI? Try SSI iso which is for appliances.

    on that appliance there is already V7 software, but I cannot use it with my license.
    That's why I try to install the software-version.

    I have one machine that has the same cpu and nics as the 120 appliance, and if I put the wrong harddrive in it, the non-appliance installer fails because it thinks I'm installing on a 120. I don't think there's any way to install the software version on your 120 to use your home license on it.

    just purge the partitions from disk or install another system. Then you can install your ASG with the software iso.

    Yes, just boot up with a utility that will allow you to wipe all the partitions on the disk... then the standard image should install.  A Gparted Live CD (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php) works good for this, if you need a GUI.

    Thanks Bruce,

    it was, what I expected. It only works, if you wipe the disk.

    I did it and the installation worked like charm. It takes 30 min on this hardware to install, but now everything is fine.

    Hey, WK... one other thing... since you are using an older 110/120 appliance... make sure you have 512MB of RAM in it.  The older ones came with only 256MB, which was too little to run Version 7 (frankly, we upgraded all the ones we sold even when the current version was Version 6 because of performance issues).  The older units took PC133 RAM, had only one slot.  512MB was the max the chipset on the little box would allow.

    Bruce,

    the box is ap. 1 year old and has already 512MB in it. So the installation went smooth. 
    I was afraid that 512 is not enough, because 512 should be minimum, but because of graphics, there is not 512 left.

    For home use 512MB should be enough, but for future needs, I'm thinking of changing to 1GB.
    What are the specifications for that RAM?

    As I said, 110 / 120 units can only hold 512MB of RAM.  I have heard that there is or will be a new version of that appliance sold at some point that may hold more... but I don't think they are out there yet.
