no web interface after drive-swap install

Hello,
 I could not get the beige box that I am using for my gateway to boot a cd and I couldn't find a way to boot a floppy and install. Long story short, I put the drive in another box and installed choosing one of the nics in that box as the "administrator's" interface when prompted to chose. I also left the default ip set as 192.168.2.100 and left the gateway option set to none and my current network is all 192.168.0.* (wal-mart wireless router and SMC 24 port switch)

I am able to boot to a login prompt with a monitor attached and both of the nics installed show lights when connected to the switch. However, I can't even ping a 192.168.2.100 (maybe dropping ping requests though right?)

I need to get through the initial install so that I can connect the Astaro gateway pc to my modem and my switch below that with my router set to AP only connected to the switch.

I am somewhat familiar with Linux in a general sense but I don't want to compromise this system so I would rather not start playing.

Where do I start?

    Hi there,

    You say that your current network is 192.168.0.x and you left the IP of the astaro as the default 192.168.2.100. You will need to change the IP address of the computer you are accessing the astaro from so that the astaro and the computer are both on the 192.168.2.x network. Then you should be able to access the webadmin of the astaro from a browser by going to https://192.168.2.100:4444

    Thanks for such a fast response dilandau.

    I went ahead and logged in locally as root (hopefully not a bad idea now that root has a password).

    ifconfig shows only lo and I have the modules for the cards in the box that I installed on loaded so I guess I need to load my modules.

    My new question now is, after I get my network cards working (assuming the modules are installed and available) what configuration do I need to do to get Astaro to use them properly, as if they had been the original at install time?

    Does the Astaro system enable/disable network interfaces based on MAC ID (since I have different cards than at install time)?

    Did you swap the NICs after the install? This won't work as the astaro loads the drivers for the NICs at installation, unless you swap the nics for the same model.

    You should be able to ping the astaro. Are you connecting the astaro to the switch port of the router or the wan port? (it should be the switch ports). 
    It is possible to log on locally to the command line of the astaro, but to configure the device properly you will need to be able to access the web interface. Since the device has not been setup yet there is no password for root so if you try to login to the console as root it will prompt you to set a password. Once logged in run the ifconfig command to see if the interfaces are being detected properly, I'm guessing you may be having a problem b/c of the way you installed.

    Must have been posting in unison.

    I don't seem to have the modules needed for my NICs (RTL8139).
    Is there a way to run the installer again from disk now that I have a bootable Astaro system?
    Or something... ?

    Have a look at this thread

    There is no way to run the installer from the disk. It is possible to manually load the modules, I believe if you search the forum you will probably find some instructions.

    I think I'm going to have to install the cards in the host box and install astaro again.

    I really wish they would give us a way to start the installer from a floppy [:)]
