Astaro image clarification

For the past several years, we've used an Astaro 220 Gateway appliance.  For installing a fresh image, when necessary, I've had to get the SAI ISO from a password protected directory on the Astaro FTP.

Recently I've noticed the public FTP has been populated with SSI ISO images.

Are the SSI in the public FTP directories applicable to the 220 and do they replace the SAI images, or are the SSI something else?

Thanks

  • Never mind.  I just read the note in the private ftp:

SAI images have been replaced by the SSI images as of version 7.200.

  • Yep, no longer necessary to contact a reseller to get the ASG images.

  • Talking about installing a fresh image on an Astaro appliance...  Is it a good idea to do a fresh install from scratch of Astaro from time to time to increase stability or speed up things?  Like we do with Windows?  Or it's not the same with Linux and I would be wasting my time.

At work, we have a ASG 220 since the version 7.00x that's now at 7.202
  • I've not found a need to reimage a unit, ever, for any of my customers, except the one time we've had a HD fail... the update system is linux style, so there's not much chance of "garbage" building up.

  • What is an "ASI USB Stick"?

Linux does not suffer the instability issues of windows because of better design.  You only have to reimage a linux machine due to a major failure and linux does not require occasional reformatting as a maintenance step..[:)]
