DNS Resolution for failover interface?

Not sure if this is the right forum, but you're such a smart group [:)] that I thought I would ask:
I have an ASG 220 with a T1 primary interface and a DSL interface configured for failover.

Our website and DNS are hosted elsewhere but I have an internal webserver and email Exchange Server.

I believe that DNS for the mail server is not a big issue because I can configure the 2 MX records with a priority 10 and a priority 100 so the second ip address will only be used if the first is not available.

But what about the owa web server? If I put out 2 different ip addresses for the owa.oursite.com server and only 1 of them is available, won't I get DNS failure at least some of the time?

Does the hosting company have to provide some kind of failover DNS service or is there a simple way to resolve this?

    An intelligent system will try all of the DNS servers configured.

    You should however, put the primary server as the first one in the list.

    Also, web servers don't need DNS unless they're running analytics with DNS lookups turned on.
    Even then, nothing should break if DNS is down.
    If for some reason you're doing filtering based on the client hostname (not IP), that could be a problem.

    The issue here is not with the DNS servers, it's with the DNS records for the webserver, which of course must have a DNS record, otherwise the traveling sales people will not be able to find the owa interface when they enter owa.domain.com/exchangeserver. The DNS servers belong to a national hosting company with redundancy and all the proper stuff. Google DNS Failover shows that there are numerous third party softwares providing Dynamic DNS to monitor failover conditions. No reply from my hosting company if they use such software. Only solution may be a phone call in case of disaster...[:)]

    You're worried about the ISP's DNS going down?

    You could setup another DNS server somewhere, maybe even where the OWA server is, and have it be in the list of nameservers for your domain. It could be a slave to the other servers, but would still be up if the others went offline.
