Install help, please

I just installed the ASG home version on my machine.  I thought the install went smoothe, but I don't think I'm passing any traffic from my LAN to the WAN.  

I followed the .pdf install guide instructions 3 times, with no luck.

My lan NIC, eth0, shows that the link is down.  How could that be, though, because I'm accessing the box through that as the admin?  It's a Linksys 10/100 Etherfast PCI card.  I swapped cables with my eth2 which showed "up" but the eth0 still shows down and the eth2 still shows up.

I've spent 5 hours trying to find a solution to this and I just don't know where else to look.  The up2date portion says that everything is current, so I'm assuming the WAN side is functioning.

I'll be glad to post any details that would help diagnose.

Can anyone please give me some pointers on where to look?  I really appreciate your help.

    I have a Netgear Gigabit card that I replaced with the Linksys because it's link light (on the card) would light up during boot but shut off before it was complete.  

    My eth2 card is installed and shows that the link is up.  Is there a way to switch the box admin over to eth2 without a complete reinstall?  

    Lastly, after I posted, I learned that my box is a little shy on resources based on the minimums Astaro provides.  I'm running a PII 400 mhz machine with 768 MB RAM.  It didn't give me any errors, though, when it checked hardware on install.  Will this cause problems for me?

    If you setup the admin settings - allowed networks, you can admin on any NIC.

    If you're asking if you can change the INT network to another NIC, probably not easily without having a 3rd nic working.

    Your machine will probably be OK for basic packetfiltering, but the web interface may be slow.
    Advanced features such as the IPS or content filtering will not run well, and you will probably experience slow connections if you enable them.

    I'm running a PIII 800MHz, with PF + IPS only, and it runs fine for my needs at home.

    Thanks Barry.  It's going to be a couple days before I get to work on it again, but your information on moving over the admin and the system performance will be helpful.

    I'll post my results once I get to test it out again.

    I have the same NIC in my machine at home and worked perfectly with v6. I can't remember when it broke in v7. It will show as state up but link down in the dashboard. However if you look under network -->interfaces, it shows it with green button and being up. I have never had any problems with it other than it showing down in the dashboard and it works fine.

    Thanks Billybob.  I hope to find some time this weekend to give it another shot.  I only get to work on computers during a perfect storm.  You know, children asleep, wife asleep, and no work the next day...

    Good afternoon.  I finally found some time to work on the system this weekend and, after installing a different NIC, it works!

    I'm not sure exactly what the problem was, but I'm thinking that it might have been that I needed a crossover cable instead of the straight through cables I was using.  Wish I had thought to check that earlier.

    Anyway, the system is up and running on my old machine.  The CPU only seems to max out on boot (so far).
