Cable modem... ASG install...

I am trying to install an ASG at my house for testing, i have a cable modem, so my understanding is the setup would go like this....

Cable Modem ---> ASG ---> Wireless Router ---> Switch ---> PC's

My understanding is that the cable modem DHCP option in the interface category will automatically assign the IP from the cable modem to the WAN interface, true?

and the internal interface should stay the same?

  • Configure the wireless router as an access point... it should not be (ideally) inline with the ASG and your switch.  Use the ASG's DHCP server and DNS proxy functions to serve internal computers with IPs and DNS, if your wireless router previously did this.
