Installation Failed press enter to restart

I get the above message when attempting a v7 install on an AthlonXP-class PC which is already running V6 without problems.  The error message doesn't give me a lot to go on.  

It appears after the screen where you confirm for the last time that you want to format the disk, before it actually performs the operation.

checked again and the error message is something like "Please remove CD-ROM and restart the system"

    Because the drive already had Astaro 6 on it, the install process wouldn't mount the CDRom (in my case) /dev/hdc as /install automatically.  We did this manually, prior to pushing F8 to begin the install, and it ran successfully.

    My friend had the exact same issue upgrading his v6 box as well.

    Hi,
    The ASG install process doesn't care what is on the disk already. You don't start the process from within the ASG. You start the install be restarting the ASG with the install disk in the CD drive assuming you have the CD drive as the first access in the boot list.

    This was my understanding of the process as well--there isn't an "upgrade" installation only a clean install and upgrade of an old config backup.

    This being said, iirc the Astaro 6 installation procedure didn't give me any trouble originally, and I wasn't expecting this error to come up.  My friend who helped me work through it noted that he'd had the same exact thing happen with his own "upgrade" attempt as well and had to do the same thing. 

    This was on a 1.5ghz AthlonXP with 256mb of RAM and a 40gb drive--there are 2 optical drives in it though, I wonder if that's why it needed to have /install mounted from dev/hdc.  I just checked with him and his box has 2 opticals in it too.  

    Should have tried booting the install from the other CDRom drive I guess!

    Hi,
    the ASG will only see one CD drive, so just remove the power lead from one.

    If you are going to use v7.*** I would recommend adding another 256mb of ram to your boxes, if possible preferably 512mb.

    I am trying to install ASG asg-7.103-080219-2.iso ( size - 461 MB )
    Me also facing same kind of issues.
    I have one drive of 34Gb and attached one Sony DVD ROM to system.
    At hardware detection step it detect one hard drive but in CDROM it detects 2 CDROM - 1. SONY DVD
                 2. Virtual CDROM

    Even I have disabled Virtual CDROM in BIOS but still it detects.
    At step 7 of 7 it failed installation.

    If I switch console to Alt-F2 it says:
    sh: line 0: cd: /install/install/: No such file or directory
    /usr/bin/md5sum: install.md5: No such file or directory
    Return code: 256
    PHASE END: install ( ret=0)
     umount: /dest//sys: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//proc: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//boot: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//opt/inst: No such file or directory
    .........................
    ...............................................

    If I switch console to Alt-F4 then I noticed that after network detection etc it tried to mount CDROM and says:
    Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
    kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
    ......



    SO MY QUESTION is : it is happening due to virtual cdrom detection OR 
    some problem with my iso file. 

    Please give some pointers.

    Sounds like a problem with the CD or virtualization.
    I've never heard of a virtual CD in the BIOS.

    You're not using VMWare, right?

    I am not using vmware.

    machine boot from sony dvd-rom which contains asg CD and goes through it.
    When it detects hardwre then it says forund 2 CDROM- SONY DVD ROM and Virtual CDROM.

    and in console alt-F3 I saw that it assigned /dev/sr0 to SONY drive and /dev/sr1 to virtual cdrom. but it try to mount /dev/sr1. WHY SO?

    please , any pointers.

    welp I'm officially lost lol...

    Virtual CDRom from the bios? I've never heard of that. (doesn't mean its not out there I suppose)

    I've virtualized CD-ROM drives in Microsoft windows for our staff to run ISO's directly off the network, but I've never heard of doing this pre-windows boot.

    You're not booting this in a Microsoft virtual or something running as a second layer on an already existing OS are you?

    If not, have you gone through and turned off any unneeded or unknown items under the hardware section of the bios? Normally this kind of thing doesn't need to be done, but something crazy is going on for sure. I'd check it.

    Yes Jayson, some thing crazy is happening at my end :-)

    I have noticed one thing more that when I run installer then in console alt-F3
    it says " Installer is running as a vmware guest" 
    so my doubt is I think this iso ( asg-7.103-080219-2.iso ) is asg virtual appliance.

    Am I right or wrong?

    I got this iso from one of my friend.

    My intention is to install "asg software appliance" not to install "asg virtual appliance". 

    If above iso is asg virtual appliance then its trying to mount virtual cdrom to proceed for main installation?

    pls help.

    Hey guys,

    I installed asg-7.2 and it went well.
    Now problem is from client machine ( 192.168.2.101 )  I can ping ASG m/c -192.168.2.100 but from browser http://192.168.2.100:4444 page is not coming.

    I am getting blank white page. 

    What is the prob? where I need to look into ASG m/c.

    pls help.
