for that few of nodes, even with all features enabled, you'd be OK with only 1GB... so you're fine.  I run more than that on older 512MB units all the time, though I consider 1GB perfect unless one's running a LOT of clients.

I put 2GB in most of our custom systems with up to 150 or 200 clients, all features enabled (non-Astaro appliances)... they barely ever hit the 60% to 70% mark, but hey, RAM is cheap, and more is better.  Larger environments need 2GB or more, of course.

I totally concur with Bruce that RAM is cheap and more is better - we have a number of appliances (220 (512Mb), 425 (2Gb), 425A (2Gb)) and an ASG server (Dell 2650, 4Gb, dual Xeon 2.8Ghz).

We use the 220s for a single web-based application on a government extranet and they frequently run at 80-95% running just the web proxy in traditional mode.  This is for approximately 20 discrete users, and only 2 or 3 concurrently.  To be fair, the performance for clients is good even with memory utilisation at this amount.

We were using a 425 for our entire organisation's internet access on a 50mbps Internet connection, which covers web proxy in traditional mode with LDAP authentication and SMTP relaying (no VPN, IM or packet filtering).  With over 6000 users, this box performed well enough for the clients, but was difficult to administer as webmin frequently stopped responding or timed out.  This box often ran at 80-90% RAM use.  Typically, we'd see load averages peak from anywhere between 12 and 20, even on the 15 minute sample period, and as version 7 versions went on, things started to get better.

Just as a benchmark, the executive report would show this server deals with 15,000 mails and approximately 1,000,000 web requests per day.

We have now upgraded that 425 to an ASG server - this is frequently running at about 30% RAM utilisation, although it fluctuates throughout the day.  Even with the dual Xeon 2.8Ghz processors this box still works pretty hard and typical load averages are between 2 and 3 throughout the day, but the web admin problems have gone away and performance has never been better.

I'd be very interested to know if Astaro are planning on releasing a 64-bit version of the appliance - after all, you could pick up a 64-bit Dell server with SAS drives, quad core processors and 16Gb of memory for just a few thousand UK pounds...
