Installation Issues - Any Recommendations?

I can't seem to install the 7.1 version.  I get through the hardware compatility check and configuring the web interface to the point where it says there is no turning back. This is your last chance to stop the installation. Once I hit F8 it instantly says the installation failed and I should reboot. I'm installing on an HP Vectra Vi8 with a Pentium III 650mhz chip with 500 megs of ram and a 20 gig hd. (A bit slim but passable)  Not sure where I'm going wrong. it all seems to be fine on the compatibility list. I've tried all three installation otions. All get the exact same result. Any ideas?

    When it fails, try hitting ALT-F2, ALT-F3, ...
    You might be able to see some errors there.

    Try using the 7.103 ISO (if you haven't already)... also try using the "classic" option for install, sometimes this works.

    I had the same issues - would fail and had to reboot.

    After hitting the ALT F4 and F3, I was able to see that the system was unable to locate my CD ROM drive... Nothing I did would correct that...

    I ended up buying a new SATA DVD drive, installed it and problem solved.

    The install is fairly smart and while others have has issues with SATA, my DVD and HD were picked up right away.

    See what the error is - then you know which action to take. Let us know - we are glad to help!

    Thanks guys. It was a combination of all three replies that helped me.  I can email the alt cmd info to anyone interested. Mainly a couple of references to nonexisting files or directories. I created a new 7.103 image. But I also used another DVD drive that is attached to the same PC. (It's an older model then the one I was using) It installed succesfully. So I don't know which was the problem.  But thanks just the same.  This is a very interesting piece of software. I'm a pretty basic user. Just messing around trying to keep my family home network safe and secure with a couple of fast growing kids who will soon be internet mavins I'm sure.  Currently I have cable internet with a modem. Then I have a nice simple D link router. It's wireless and so that's very handy. I have a couple of basic questions to ask about this software. Will this box now have DHCP capabilities? I'm assuming that I can replace my router with it. I don't have a static IP from my ISP. It doesn't change often but I think that might be a problem if it does.  Simple to fix but a "hands-on" thing. Can I use a couple of hubs to add ports or do they have to be switches? Can I add my home router after the Astaro to add wireless functions?

    Astaro has both a DHCP client for the WAN, and a DHCP server for the LAN(s).

    A hub should be OK.

    You can use your wireless router as a wireless access point by disabling the DHCP server in it, and only using the LAN ethernet ports.
