two rtl8169 gigabit cards. asg problems

I would like to use two rtl8169 cards however during install its very flaky
it either sometimes sees only ONE in the hardware detection or sometimes it lists them both

Then after i installed with just one being detected and i applied the updates i can no longer ping the ASG box no matter what i do.

it just wont respond.

the light on the RJ45 cable does come on at the switch side and on the card but no response to ping no matter what.

pls advise.

    May sound basic, but:

    Try different cards, or maybe change just one to another type.  Common problem with cheap network cards on the same PCI bus... I normally utilize Intel NICs to get around this problem, or have a Via port and a realtek port (different makes) in the same machine.
