Hi

I have the following H/W

1. Intel Core2 Duo E6420 2.13Ghz (Conroe 1066MHZ) CPU, Dual core LGA775 65w 4mb
2. Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2 M/B
3. 2x250GB Samsung SATA300 7200RPM HD250HJ
4. IM-EXPI9404PT Intel Pro/1000 PT Quad Port Gigabit PCI-Express Network card
5. Corsair 2048MB Value Select 240-pin PC5300 DDR2 Twin-Pack (2x 1024mb sticks)

Chipset:
NorthBridge: Intel G33 Express
SouthBridge: Intel ICH9
Realtek TRL811B LAN


Installer fails - Alt F3 states

Searching for storage controllers
Storage Controller: Giga-byte IDE interface
Storage Controller: Giga-byte IDE interface
Storage Controller: Giga-byte IDE interface
Total 3 storage controllers found
Searching for disks
Total 0 disks found

I have tried

1. Sata mode only
2. SATA Port0-1 Native IDE Mode
3. Also tried to set disk access to LBA
4. disconnected 2nd drive
5. tried classic mode

Nothing works - the installer never finds any disks. Any suggestions appreciated !

BTW Ubuntu 7.1 Live CD works flawlessy.

Why is it Astaro are so far behind on Hardware compatibility ?

    What you are seeing is that your SATA controller is not recognised by the ASG kernel. Some of the SATA controllers are only recent releases and the drivers haven't stablised yet. You must remember ASG is primarily a production platform and can't afford to play with untested or drivers of unknown reliability regardless of how much you & I would like to try the more efficient bleeding edge.

    Thanks for the reply Ian. I should replace my M/B. I notice from your sig you are using SATA and a Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M M/B. The chipsets for that are not listed in Astaro V7 HCL either...how did you manage to narrow down a SATA supported M/B that works with V7 ?

    I need a MATX board that supports SATA and a Intel Core2 Duo E6420 2.13Ghz and a PCI-Express slot for the quadport Intel NIC...any suggestions ;-)

    I would stick with a MB that has an ICH8 (or less) chipset.  Do not get one with the Raid features (or make sure you can disable it), as that often does not work with Astaro either.

    I'm not having much luck...I got hold of a Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2 specs here.

       1. Northbridge: Intel® G965 Express Chipset
       2. Southbridge: Intel® ICH8
       3. Marvel 8056 Gigabit LAN Controller
       4. GIGABYTE SATAII controller
       5. Realtek ALC883 8 Channel Audio Codec 

    Note I am not using the Gigabyte SATA raid controller I am using the ICH8 connectors on the motherboard.

    So according to the V7 HCL both those (1 & 2) chipsets are supported yet Astaro boots from the CD then when checking hardware fails saying it cant find the install CD.

    I have set everything in the BIOS correctly, no AHCI, no RAID, IDE mode for the SATA drive, standard IDE connection for the CDROM

    Can anyone shed some light on this ? thanks

    my MB choice was purely good luck than anything else. I was looking for an all-in-one M/B and that one was cheap, readily available and used memory, CPU and harddrives I already had.

    One question about your CD, does it actually so in POST, by the sounds of your comment it looks like it is disabled.

    I am not sure the intel PCI-EX NICs are fully supported. I installed  a single NICone on my last attempt to get a dual processor system going, the card works, but the chipset isn't recognised.
