ASG 120 running 7.101 - should I go back?

I have a ASG 120 that originally ran 6.x. I recently upgraded to 7.101, using the described method of booting to a USB-connected CD and doing a fresh install. It works OK most of the time, and I have a small number of users (typically under 10 at a time). I do not use web proxy, only SMTP proxy with AV and SPAM filtering. I have noticed a few times users tell me they can't get to a web site. When that happens, I can't log in to WebAdmin. After a reboot, all is well again. I just wonder if this hardware is too weak to handle 7.x properly. It only has 256MB of RAM, and as I understand it, that can not be upgraded (which seems crazy to me...)

    yes..honestly you really need 512 megs at an absolute minimum..plus the cpu in the 120 is very weak..that mahcine should stick with 6.x until EOL

    No need to go back; contact your reseller or support, they should allow you to upgrade that unit to 512MB of RAM (takes a standard PC133 512MB DIMM).  They shipped the older ones originally with 256MB when V6 was current product, and sometime before Version 7 went beta they started shipping them all with 512MB.  If you don't have too many users behind that unit (say about 15 or so) you should be fine; I have several customers running these with 512MB in it.

    Yep. in the UK I got a PC-133 512 DIMM PC World   GBP 30.00  am running 7.011 on an OLD ASG120 with HTTP Proxy and VPN ... works just fine.  You could also change out the HARD Disk for a 40Gb / 7200rpm one if you want to keep the ASG going faster... the combination of better DISK I/O and 512 RAM is Fine for us..

    I agree also.  For a smaller number of users - the 110 or 120 with 512Mb of RAM works quite well.  A quick HD is always beneficial too.

    I typically opt to utilize older server hardware and go the software route. For most of these units, I have Proliant DL360 (original G1) servers, with dual PIII/800 CPUs, 1GB RAM, and a pair of 18.2GB drives configured for RAID 0. The 18.2GB drives can be a bit constrained when there are a number of users on the system (20+) with proxies turned on.

    Looking at the system monitor, one of these units usually consumes about half of its RAM under v7, so 512MB is a good watermark. CPU usage stays between 2% and 20%.

    Just some more info to add to the mix.

    PS - I've set one of these up on a Proliant DL360 G5 with a pair of dual core Xeons and 2GB RAM (37% RAM usage; 25+ IPSec VPN tunnels), and it sings.
