ASG 220 failed update to 7.101

You may have another option; try calling support (as opening the case otherwise may void your warranty) and have them walk you through restoring functionality by hooking up the VGA cable to the system board (every ASG unit I've ever gotten had this cable in a "goodie bag" that came with the system) and a USB Keyboard... that will give you console access, and with that and support's help, you should be able to get back in.  I'm really interested in hearing how this happened (root cause), as I've upgraded several units and none have exhibited this behaviour.  If you don't want to do this, then...

Contact your reseller and get the 7.100 "SAI" image (it is not available on Astaro's public ftp sites)... you have to use a special image on Astaro's Hardware Appliances in order for the 220 license you have to install, as well as to make sure the interfaces are in the right order on the machine (the sai build includes a script that changes the mappings, as Linux tries to map the ports in a different order), etc.  If you install a standard 7.100 image on that box (which would necessitate installing the VGA cable and keyboard as mentioned above anyhow), your licenses won't work, and all manner of things will be out of order. If you get the right image, you'll only need a USB CD-ROM drive to get it installed, then restore your backup.  I would recommend just going straight to 7.100 with the ISO, then up2dating to 7.101, then restore your backup.

The first thing I tried was to use the sai 7.1 CD from my partner.  That all worked fine until I restored my configuration settings and then the webadmin disappeared again.  

I have opened a case with Astaro, but for now I am back to 7.011.  What a painful restore too.  Unless I was doing something wrong, I had to download ALL the updates for the system to get itself back to 7.011. 

At least I'm running, but I have lost a years worth of historical data because I rushed into "fixing" it.

It sounds like something in the configuration didn't agree with 7.100 ... wierd.  Probably pretty quick to fix under the console... I feel pretty sure if you send your config backup to Astaro Support, and they restore it to a test system, they will find out what the issue is.

BTW, I went and checked the Partner FTP site, and, indeed, the old 7.011 SAI image is gone, only 7.100.  I guess it's a good thing I held onto the old 7.011 image as well... if your reseller doesn't have it, perhaps they could get Astaro to make it available to them... that way a restore when you're testing won't take so long.
