High CPU utilization

All of the sudden, starting on Monday 1/14, I'm seeing repeated high utilization CPU spikes across multiple ASG boxes and ASL installs.  This was not happening prior to Monday.  They're random, don't last too long - a few minutes, but it's happening repeatedly.

Is anyone else seeing the same thing?  I spotted the change on the daily executive report.

    Something to do with the large number of pattern up2dates for the intrusion protection system that have been released in the last couple of days, perhaps?

    We've got a couple of Astaro boxes that run IPS but not virus or spam checking. These normally go for weeks without installing a single update, but starting Monday they went a bit crazy: 20 updates on Monday, and a further 24 on Tuesday.

    Can't see any corresponding spikes on the CPU usage graph, but this might just be the poor resolution of the graph: our CPU usage is normally around the 1%-2% mark.

    OK, maybe the updates were the issue.  Things do seem to have quieted down.  I'll keep an eye on it.
