So I've got the software installed with eth0 working, but I think I've got the cart before the horse....
My original hardware is Westell 327W combo device which includes a DSL Modem, an ethernet router, wireless router, a built-in firewall, and various other services. This worked fine but I wanted more reporting and flexibility, and I wanted to learn about network security, so here I am.
All of the instructions I've been able to find seem to be lacking in the description of whether this kind of hardware (a modem/router combo) is going to work with the ASG.
What MIGHT work would be to configure the Westell's built-in firewall to route all traffic to the ASG box, unconditionally. But that would put wild internet traffic on my internal LAN, albeit directed only at the eth1. But it would be NAT-ed.
The instructions show a stand-alone, external, DSL modem. It looks like it only has two jacks: one for the phone line and the other an ethernet jack. I don't even know how I would connect that thing, even if I knew which hardware to buy (cross-over cable?).
So, is the modem/router combo not workable with the ASG?
If not, is there a modem only solution? I wouldn't mind an internal one, but I don't see modems on the compatability list, so am I to understand that internal DSL modems are not supported? So what external DSL modems would be a good choice for the "budget minded" consumer?
