How do I access the Ispci -v?  (I'm guessing that it is a file that should have been written to the hard drive somewhere on installation of ASG?

I would recommend downloading a some kind of linux live CD that comes with a gui.

Once it boots up you need to open a terminal (command prompt if your from the windows world) and then run "lspci -v". Then copy that text, open a webbrowser & paste it back to the forum's here..

I've found some Linux Live CD sources through google. I'll need to do some reading and learning first !! Once I understand it I will post the outcomes.

I take it your refering to ssh'ing to the astaro install CD? I wasn't aware it hosted an ssh server (I've never bothered to try or needed it)

how big is your hard disk?

since you don't write about it. if under 10gb formated it will break the installation... i had a 10gb raw -> some 9gb + some pennies formated and astaro refusted to install with "Installation Failed" like yours. when changed it for an 40gb no problems.

I think those machines came with a 240-280 gig drive. But being a home computer I could see all kinds of issues with installing a high end product such as Astaro. You would be much better off if you have the money by jumping on EBay or a refurb site and getting a low cost server with SCSI hard drives etc. That way you are pretty much assured there will be no device problems. Personally I picked up 2 duel HP servers for $100 each. Dropped four SCSI drives in them and away I went.

In my experience, most servers are noisy and waste a lot of power.

An update for you. 
I have changed PC and have now successfully installed the Astaro gateway software and can log in as webadmin through my browser. 
Currently in the configuration stages.

The problem was that I was trying to install the software on a Dual Pentium machine - which is not compatible with Astaro (I should have read the hardware compatibility list).

I replaced the PC with an older Pentium 4, 40 GB HD, 1 GB memory, on board NIC with adidtional D-Link NIC installed,  Dell Optiplex (a really old machine!) and the Astaro software installed successfully (I had trouble trying to track down a cheap second hand machine that was not a duel processor!).

First stage done. I am into the configuration and so far everything is straight forward (I have planned out my network before hand so it is simply a mechanical process).

I'll let you know how I go.

I know this is due to the age of the PC I'm attempting to install this on but it would be nice to know exactly what's causing the failure.  Below is the output from lspci -v.

Well, 

I downloaded the disk image for Version 7 and decided to erase the hard drive and reinstall now to version 7 from the updated disk image before I configure my new Astari machine (a mistake).

Astaro seems to install ok - then eventually gets to the login prompt on the screen (i.e: login   192.168.2.100) and sits there waiting for a user name and password (I don't know what these are - can anyone help me with this?).

My Astaro machine is on the same subnet on my private network - I can successfully ping the Astaro machine from another machine on the subnet - but I cant connect to Astaro through my Browser (no response) - I have tried IE 7 on XP Pro, Safari on 10.5.2 Mac, IE on Safari 10.5.2 Mac.

On reinstalling a number of times - same result.

Astaro seems to be being built on the computer but I can't connect to do the configuration.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Connect to the ASG via another PC on the same LAN segment by typing "IP Address:4444" into your browser.  Then specify a password for the admin account, at which point you should be able to login.

From the documentation I've read this should get you in.  I haven't gotten to this point yet because of some kind of hardware compatibility issue.
