Hardware advice

I've just managed to acquire a Cobalt Qube3 (the one with an AMD processor, not the MIPS one) with 512Mb RAM and a 10Gb hard drive.

Apart from the lack of an optical drive in the box, can anyone see any reason why 7.x won't run on this ?

    Hmmmm... This is kinda what I thought... I'm investigating whether I can upgrade the processor to something more substantial, but t the moment it's running CobaltOS which is based on OpenBSD I believe... A tad slow but it does the job.

    i think k6-2 500mhz or 550mhz is the fastest cpu you could use and it won't be enough powerful. k6-2 is a pentium II class cpu and if i remember well a 800mhz pIII is the official minimal requirement.

    Not enough processor, and if you intend to use this in a commercial setting (more than about 10 users or so with all features enabled), you'll need more memory... at least 768MB or 1GB.

    No, this is purely for a home situation - plus it is a very cool looking piece of hardware...:-)


    I might give it a try with 6.x and see if that works..
