Silent Box for Home Use

Hi,

i want to change my old netgear router to a box with asl home licence.
Performance ist not so importend for me at home, but noise [:)]
So i am searching for some hints which hardware i should/can buy.
I need 2 Lan-Ifs (1Wan/1Lan) and a realy siltent box (fanless)

Some of the VIA Mini-ITX systems are fanless. Search these forums for Mini-ITX or "low power".

There are many options on how to make a quiet PC without a fan. As Barry mentioned, VIA offers some motherboards that do not have a CPU fan. Intel also offers similar motherboards. I would suggest the following site which I have found a useful source of quality information:

I am running v7.100 on a fairly old Via PD-10000 with 1GB Ram... it runs very good (The first v7 Versions (7.00x) were totally unacceptable on this Machine). It had a noisy 4cm Fan for the CPU, but i replaced it with a silent 8cm Fan. The Powersupply has a Fan too, so the System isn´t really noiseless.

If you use a Case with an external "Brick" Style Powersupply, one of the newer fanless Via (1Ghz) or Jetway (1,2Ghz) Mini-ITX Boards and a silent 2,5" HD you might get a totally silent System.

The really tricky Part could be the compatibility to ASG v7... have a look here
