Blank Screen - Pulling My Hair OUT!!!

Try changing the LBA options in the BIOS, or try a Classic or NOACPI install.
Also, make sure your BIOS is up to date.

Which version of Astaro were you trying to install?

I have changed the Hard drive settings to LBA / Normal and LBA /Auto and re-installed both times.  Still get the blank screen and Error:15 File Not Found.  Tried Classic installed as it claims that my bios does not support APIC.  However I have installed a few different firewalls and none of them had this problem.

I thought the classic was with NOACPI.  It puts the command ACPI=off in the kernel for me.  So I assume it is working.

I am trying to install ASG V7.011-071015-1.

I have even looked at ALT+F1 / F2 / F3 /F4 and it says that it cannot read some files to the drive however it writes other files.

As I have said, I have tried many different versions of linux on this drive and all work.  3 Different versions of Windows and they all work.  I have tested the HDD and the IDE Controller and all work fine.  I have checked the memory on the computer and all pass fine.

I am starting to think that I would probably be better off with IPCOP which I dont really want to use but at least it works on my computer [:(]

Please can someone tell me a suitable hardware system to get this to work ? As I have stated my hardware and what I have done to try and fix it, but not getting anywhere.... Anyone please help :|  

I have got the VMWARE version working but I need it to run on its own computer or could someone please tell me how I would setup the following.

Windows 64Bit Server 2003 with Exchange 2007.  I would like to run VMWARE on this and get the ASG running on VMWARE.  What I need help on is how would I get the nics in VMWARE to work on my own network so I can point my MX records to ASG and get it filterd to Exchange.

Is this possible ? Would be easier if I could have got the computer working with ASG on its own [:(]

Thanks for the help... or lack of!!!! (ASTARO!!)  I have decided to go with another solution as it does what Astro does and works on ANYTHING!

Hey, so impatient, it's weekend and this is first visit to forum for Monday.
Also, the forums are NOT the official support channel for Astaro.  (You can see support info at Astaro.com)

And yes all the above is possible.  Looks like your hardware is unloved though.  Have you tried a different PC.  Is the HDD Sata?  Maybe the SATA controllers not properly supported or you have bad RAM?

I have tried IPCOP / Smoothwall Express / Endian / ShoreWall / CentOS IPTables  / ClarkConnect and all boot without ANY issues.  Work first time. 

I have tried the LBA options - NOT WORKING / IDE DRIVE / SATA DRIVE.  All Install types and still blank screen.  

Memory checks out ok.  I have installed the above linux and Windows Server software on the same Hard drive.  Ran benchmarks on the PC and works fine.

Astaro installs then informs me to reboot.  I get a blank screen upon the reboot.  Looking at the menu I get Error 15: File Not Found.

I have tried different sata cables/ide cables.  CDROM and Hard Drive changes.
Latest BIOS update.  Default settings.  LBA ON / MANUAL.  LBA / AUTO.  Still this crap black screen.

I have tried the VMWARE Appliance and it works fine on the Same computer with windows xp pro installed on it.

So if I am a little impatient to get this to work, you can now see why ?

I have the latest version.  Do you think I should try an older version too ?

I suggest you contact support, I can understand your frustration, from what I can see with your tests with other products it should damn well work.

All's I can say is that it normally works on just about all hardware I throw at it.

v7.011 should be fine.  You could try the beta which is very stable (and we're close a final release now I'd say).

I've skimmed the KB and not seen that error, suggest you email support which you are entitled to do with evaluation.  Detail version, fullest description of hardware, chipset as possible.

Sounds to me very much like a multi port display card and the port is not switching to the one you are connected to.

Try a different display card if you have one, it only needs about 32-64mb of ram and that is only to ensure that the display chip is powerful enough.

1) I did contact Astaro Support last wednesday and still NO HELP
2) The display will show me the boot menu and the error15: File Not Found.  I can see that.  The distro will not boot passed that and nor can I ping eth0 from another computer on the same subnet [:(]

Finally got an answer... or should I say a fob off!!!!!  I downloaded the eval from Astaro themselves!!!!!!!!!!

I have loaded it again (approx 15th time) and still wont boot.  Reboot and press escape then goto the menu - rescue.  I get the following...

Why I suggested you change display cards is that the display changes after installation.

I would have to say you are definitely doing something wrong during the installation process. I have installed ASG on about 4 different boxes ranging from high performance AMD 3500+ to lowly celeron 1100s and all went in okay.

Can I just ask how I am installing it wrong ? 

1)Boot with CD
2) type CLASSIC then Enter
3) Follow prompts
4) Eject CD
5) CTRL ALT DEL

Now if anywhere along there I am doing something wrong then I will agree with you but how hard can it be ?

Thanks for all your help.  I have gone with ClarkConnect which doesn;t have all the features of Astaro but works.  Doesnt have the problems astaro seem to have and I managed to get a response of tech support unlike the FOB OFF i got from Astaro support.... oh wait... what support.

I got the trial version and license from them and they told me that they dont support the product unless they supplied the license... oh wait.. they DID!!!

my question, what install medium do you use. Have you burned a install medium from an iso ? Have you downloaded this .iso-file. Is it corrupt ? I would try to download the .iso and burn a new install medium. I still thinking, it's not the hardware, is's your installation medium, what is corrupt.
