ASG 425 help needed

Hi all,

I'm having some difficulties with an ASG 425 appliance that I'm effectively locked out of.  I am intending to reinstall the ASG software but first I want to copy off some historical logs.

My question is, how do I connect a VGA monitor to it?  I have the VGA ribbon cable, but can't find any documentation that says where it should be connected on the motherboard?

    Before you do all that have you tried just resetting the passwords and/or using ssh to get in?

    Hey Stu, if you're completely locked out, then, of course, SSH or Webadmin won't work... if you happen to know what the loginuser and root passwords are, then sure, you can hook up that VGA cable.  Since you run the risk of voiding your warranty, I'd get Astaro Support to approve doing this (but I have done it before -- I'm a reseller, so they trust me a little more):  Open the case, and plug that VGA ribbon cable in.  There's only one connector on that board that will match up with the plug.  Make sure Pin 1 on the cable (indicated on the ribbon by a red stripe) is oriented with ping 1 on the board (there should be a 1 or white triangular graphic silk-screened on the board to help you find this).  Plug in a USB Keyboard, and you're on the console.  Also, I have seen some 425 units (at least one 425a) that had the video cable already installed, with the connector accessible at the rear of the unit.

    An alternative would be to use the Serial port and a console cable -- this I believe is always active as long as the OS starts up.

    Thanks for the info - I actually found the pin header shortly after I posted.  It's just those damn connectors look waaaaay too big for the header at first glance... Regarding voiding the warranty, the unit's been swapped out with a replacement sent by Astaro as an RMA - I just wanted to get the contents of the log partition before it goes back, so I ended up hooking the drive up to a Linux box to get what I needed.

    By coincidence, we have just had 2x 425a's delivered yesterday and these both have VGA connectors on the back.

    Keith: the unit is suffering 100% CPU by confd.plx process - as a result I couldn't get into webmin and SSH passwords were not being accepted.  I did manage to gain access (to find the rogue process) after copying the logs off by mounting the root partition on my Linux box and writing new password hashes into the shadow file.

    Great job. I just wanted to make sure you tried the obvious first. Sometimes we forget to the simple thing (At least I do)
