Applicance upgrade from v6.312 to v7?

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade a AS120 appliance to v7. It was newly received from Astaro earlier this week and has been restored to the same state as the box it replaced. After configuring the network setup, it's updating patches and definition files without any problems. However, it's refusing to download the v7 upgrade? After proceeding to stage 2, it gives the following error:

"The download server could not be contacted.
Please check your Internet connection and make sure that the device can access the Up2Date servers."

I can't find any further information in the logs - it simply tellls me that the upgrade initialization failed. I'm not entirely sure whichftp server it is trying to contact but I can access ftp.astaro.de from other machines on our network and can start downloading the v7 iso.

Any suggestions for further things I might try? Unfortunately, I don't have a usb cd rom so my options are a little limited.

    I'd get a USB CD Rom and reload it that way; the "automatic" upgrade function is pretty much broken -- it may be fixed in a later 6.x release, but it rarely works properly, at least in my experience.  I've had good results with the USB CD-ROM and SAI image route.

    Thanks for the input.

    Unfortunately, I don't have a usb cd drive at present and its going to be expensive to but one over the weekend... [:(]

    I'll commit to that if it's the only option, but I wondered if it's possible to boot from a usb flash drive instead (is this what you meant by SAI image?)? I'm slightly pissed at Astaro for shipping it with the old version when it was clear my intention was to upgrade straight away...

    Is v7 stable enough for production use?

    USB CD ROM Drives run for  a little under $100.00 (US) here... not that bad... and they are useful.

    No, I didn't mean a USB Flash drive... 

    You have to use a special ISO image to reload an Astaro-Supplied appliance; otherwise, the Appliance license you have will not work... the filename starts with "sai"... your reseller or Astaro rep should be able to provide you with it.

    Oh, and 7.011 is fine for production use (in all the environments I've deployed these in for customers)... 7.100 promises to be even better.

    It looks like this isn't going to be fixed until at least Monday...

    I'm getting increasingly miffed with Astaro, we've had some problems with our reseller but I feel they should have taken a more active role. Instead, they've shipped out a box with none of the tools I need to get the job done - it wasn't that much to expect it would have 7 on it already (especially if the upgrade process is such a pain in the arse)! [:@]

    It really should have had 7 on it, unless you specifically requested it to have version 6.

    That's what I figured... The original support ticket even mentions v7.
    It's not been Astaro's finest hour - bearing in mind the RMA has taken 2 months!

    We'll get there in the end but it's been like pulling teeth.

    Having the same problem. I have been battling to get the local reseller to replace a unit that is on Gold Support now for the past 2 weeks.

    I however have an older 120 that only had 256MB RAM and the local reseller upgraded it to the required 512MB as soon as stock was available.

    Now I need to upgrade it to V7 and I am at my wits end. 

    It is only getting 3kb/s downloading the firmware. I need to get it in 7 hours! I do not have the SAI image - local reseller closed for the next 8 hours....

    I have sent mail to support@astaro.com, I have tried to phone the support no and was answered by voicemail. 

    Someone please get back to me!

    To add... I have 4Mb ADSL from South Africa - I get 60kbps from ftp.astaro.com and even better speeds from other sites. Why only 4kbps from Up2Date for the "firmware update"?
