External Interface is Down

Need urgent help please.  I have ASG 6.311.  I've been using it with no issues for quite some time.  Recently, my internet connection via my ISP had been rather slow.  In order to see the connection speed, I unplugged the ethernet cable running to my Astaro box (from the DSL modem) and ran it straight from the DSL modem to my laptop.

The laptop would not get an IP at first, so the ISP had me perform a 'Restart' on the DSL modem.  I was then able to get online and this is the interface I'm using now.

However, if I plug the interface back into the Astaro box, ASG will no longer get an IP from my provider.  The external interface status in ASG is shown as 'down' and the IP and Subnet are shown as ???.???.???.???  The DSL connection is PPPoE.

I have restarted ASG as well as powered down/up the modem a number of times.  I've not changed the login credentials that were initially setup and valid.

I'm using the same ethernet cable now to this PC as is used when the cable runs from the modem to ASG box.

Please help!!!  My entire network is down save this one PC which is dangerously connected straight to the DSL modem.

In some older posts i read about providers who record the MAC adress of the device which is connected to the DSL modem.
If you want to change the device you have to tell them to reset the line.
As you described, your provider performed already a 'restart' of the line, maybe because of this ??! Ask him to restart again.

Thanks. The issue ended up being that resetting the DSL modem also took it out of bridged mode, which make sense. Changing the modem back to bridged mode allowed ASG to get an IP on the external interface.
