Nested Network Groups

In v6 it is possible to include a network group in another network group.

v7 would appear to support this as well. 

(Network group: A container that includes a list of other network definitions (also other groups). You can use them to bundle networks and hosts for better readability of your configuration. Once you have selected Network Group, the Members dialog box opens where you can add the group members.)

This does not work in my system. Has anyone out there been able to get this to work?

    I'm doing it in 6.3x.
    Not sure about V7.

    I'm doing it as well in v6.3xx, which is why I asked if anyone had been able to get it to work in v7.  

    I have a v7 install @ home, and it does not appear to work there.  I have been using nested groups for as long as I can remember, which is why I was supprised when it did not in v7.

    Looks like it was dropped in v7... very unfortunate; I use it all the time in v6... upgrading's going to be a real pain.

    More like " Upgrading to a new solution " is going to be a pain.  I've grown tired of defending Astaro to my IT director.  He saw it (v7) last year at a big educators conference ( TCEA ) in Austin, TX, and wants to know why I haven't updated yet. When I lay out all the reasons, he wants to know why he's paid a hunk of change for maintenance for a product we can't use.  

    I explain the fact that we purchased maintenance and surf for the v6 package (which works), not v7 ( which does not work for _us_). We may stay with v6 if it is possible to renew the surf without renewing the maintenance.  I have no intention of downgrading to v7 at this time.

    At any rate, I have until next November to make a decision.  Who knows, they may actually put back all the functionality they removed when "upgrading" this package.

    Upgrading IS a pain. I just upgraded from v5 and I have still some open support cases. But there are some nice features. E.g. the End-User portal. We have a couple or Remote Users and that is now easy. Also the fact, that now the End-User can look up their Mails in the SPAM and can define their white-list.

    So it is a different world.

    Even if not upgrading to v7, you would be crazy not to keep the maintenance, as that is what gets you your patches. Nice new vulnerability comes out for apache, or squid, and you get no fixes without maintenance.

    Weird as it may seem, we stumbled on to the Astaro package while looking for a content filter, not a firewall.  The fact they they were bundled in one package was a big selling point.

    But, since I don't like the v7 HTTP proxy as it currently operates, I'd be even crazier to throw any more money at it.  I get phone calls almost ever week or so where someone is trying to sell the school district something to filter our internet access and keep the world ay bay.

    So, if things stay as they are, we change.

    Well, what is wrong with the http proxy in v7? 

    Have you opened support cases for any problems you have with it? 

    Have you written into Astaro with any complains about functionality?

    #1 : If you had been using the HTTP proxy since, oh, say v4, I don't understand how you could be asking this question. If you don't use the HTTP proxy, then I guess there is nothing wrong with it at all.

    2:  HTTP Proxy - Yes I have.  Initially Gert even came up here and said that fixing it was a top priority.  There have been at least 3 releases since then, no change.

    3: Nested Groups - Again, something that has been in the software _forever_ .  It's even in their documentation that it still possible to do so, yet it doesn't work.  Submitted a support request - was told that it wasn't listed as an area being changed.  I don't want it changed, I want it fixed.

    So, for someone who is using it in their home, or with just one site to concern themselves with, few, if any, surf profiles to work with, I can see how it would be a great program.

    But, I do not understand how no one else could notice the removal of the nested groups.    I have 12 remote sites that connect through my Astaro v6 box.  Each of these sites represent a school, or administration office.  Each of these sites have people who require unrestricted access to the internet.  So, each site has a group "Sitename - No Restrictions".  Each of these 12 groups are then added to one master group " No Restrictions ".  I use this master group for packet filter rules and for HTTP Profile assignment.  All I have to do to allow someone access ( or in other cases, deny it) is add them to the appropriate group.  Now, it's gone.

    Again, not asking for anything new, just stop taking out the things I've grown used to, and need to operate.

    Question:  You have a "Unlimited Home Power User " License?  Wouldn't the fact that it's "Unlimited" disqualify it from the Home User status?     Just asking...
